A pantry is a small room, or sometimes a closet, for storing food and related items. It's usually located in or next to the kitchen. A pantry usually has shelf space, and sometimes cupboards or bins. Many homes do not have pantries.
In the Middle Ages, the pantry was the room for making bread (pain in French; pan in Spanish) and storing related supplies. Pantries became less popular in the 18 and 1900s, but are now becoming a more desired home feature.
Because of the association of pantries and food storage, some stores, food donation spots and other food suppliers use the word pantry in their name.
