A footstool is a piece of furniture, the purpose of which is to support one's feet. There are two main types of footstool, which can be loosely categorized into two categories, those designed for comfort and those designed for function.
A footstool or ottoman usually has four feet or legs. While similar pieces of furniture, a hassock or pouffe, may have just the upholstered pillow part.
A footstool can be used as a seat or to prop your feet up while sitting in another seat.
