Desserts are often served at the end of a meal. They are usually more for enjoyment than for nutrition.

Desserts tend to be sweet or "rich".

Although they are generally not selected for their nutritional value, dessert foods can be healthy. For instance, a fruit tray can be both a yummy end to a meal and good for you.

Fancier meals usually come with fancier desserts. In some cases the preparation of the dessert is more intricate. In others it's the same food as for a less fancy, formal or special occasion, but presented in a more elegant style.
