Residents of a home may need different things at various stages of their lives. Most homes are primarily designed for adults. Furniture, furnishings and other things like the height of door knobs tend to be sized for a healthy, "average-sized," male adult. But when the design takes into account a variety of human sizes, shapes and abilities, it often benefits everyone (including the "average man"). For instance, a window that requires two strong arms to open is harder for everyone, and even someone who can normally open it may not be able to with a temporary injury.
