10 Downing Street

Number 10 Downing Street is the official residence of the British Prime Minister. It's also holds the offices for the Prime Minister and his or her staff. The current Prime Minister on Britain in David Cameron, so he and his staff currently reside in the house.

Originally, the house was built in 1850s and leased to Sir Thomas Knyvet by Queen Elizabeth I.

10 Downing Street's became associated with the Prime Minister in 1730, when first Prime Minister Robert Walpole accepted as a gift and decided to have the house be “First Lords of the Treasury”. The architect, William Kent, converted 3 existing townhouses into a combined structure.

Since then, the house has undergone many changes including interior renovation to suit it more for parliamentarian and cabinet meeting, work and entertaining dignitaries.

It's one of the few famous houses that is known more by its address than by a name.
